AI Makes the Rounds at Sensors Converge

Industry trends such as sustainability, smart buildings, and the ever-growing importance of the IoT were, not surprisingly, very much in evidence at the recently concluded Sensors Converge exhibition and conference in Santa Clara, CA. But the topic that was pervasive at this year’s show is something that has made major inroads into sensor technology in recent years but this year took center stage in many discussions, namely, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Sensors and AI are inevitably intertwined because sensors are in the business of collecting data from various processes and measurements, while AI helps make sense of the data to enable users to make instant decisions or plan future changes in processes and designs. This year, a number of discussions demonstrated how the deep analytical ability of AI─not just generative AI based on large language models but also complex data and modeling─is being used to solve complex design and operational issues.
